Senior starting pitcher Micah Beyer put in the pitching performance of the team’s young season so far in a 13-2 win over Bethesda College on Feb. 16. From the start, Beyer locked into another level of play, striking out four batters in the first three innings while not allowing a single hit. In fact, Beyer pitched a perfect game through five frames with eight strikeouts. The perfect game ended as a Bethesda batter hit an 0-2 double to lead off the sixth inning, and he gave up two more hits and runs in the frame. However, the senior rebounded in the next inning, striking out the side on 10 pitches for the second time in the game. In the eighth, Beyer struck out two of the final three batters he faced to close out his stellar performance. Beyer finished with 14 strikeouts over eight dominant frames, 13 of which came on his nasty slider, while only giving up two runs and four hits. Possibly the most impressive part of his performance was that he only threw 84 pitches while coming just short of a complete game. All together, Beyer’s shutdown pitching helped the Eagles to an easy win and earns him Chimes’ Athlete of the Week.
