After a two hour drive north to The Master‘s College, women’s soccer began their final game of the season. The Eagles began with a goal in the first nine minutes, but the Mustangs countered minutes later, taking the game into double over time and ending with a score of 1-1.

Like previous games, the Eagles made a quick push towards their opponent’s goal. The Mustangs failed to stop the ball movement as Biola pushed the ball into their box.
Moments later Eagles’ seniors Ashley Moseley and Kahlie Reinecke teamed up putting their squad on top 1-0.

“I shot the ball and the keeper tipped it into the post and it went in,” said Moseley.

Moseley received her seventh goal, the most on the team, and the assist by Reinecke was her first on the season. TMC fired back with a goal less than six minutes later. Even though they had more quality shots, the remainder of the first half lacked dominance by either side.

Defense played a crucial role in the next half and carried into overtime. Mustangs goalkeeper, senior Amanda DuRocher, did her job by collecting two saves out of seven shots sent her way. On the other side sophomore, Erin Frushon, had eleven saves, which included three in the second half and three in both periods of overtime.

Biola struggled to keep the ball in midfield as senior Sam David and Reinecke were the only ones who made shot attempts. Overtime was all too familiar for the Eagles. Last Tuesday, the Eagles experience overtime against No. 6 Vanguard and the game ended in a 1-1 draw. This time it would be almost repetitive in nature.

Mustangs out shot the Eagles 8-1 in double overtime and 19-6 in the game. An opportunity occurred for the Mustangs in the last period of play as Biola received a yellow card. Consequently, TMC was granted a goal kick but to the crowds disappointment the ball ended up missing just a bit wide.

A large amount of credit goes to Frushon as she displayed a masterful performance to keep her team alive.

“Our team worked hard, and I am very proud of my team members,” said Moseley. “Even though we didn’t get the win we ended the season on a good note by tying two ranked teams this week.”

The Eagles wrap up their season with a 6-6-3 overall record and post a 2-6-2 mark in conference play. Their six wins is the most since the 2006 season, and their 21 goals represents their second highest in team history.
