Derek Jeter is an overlooked legend

Derek Jeter has skill and integrity — something lacking in today’s steroid-laced MLB scene.

All sports organizations have a famous face related to them. Golf has Tiger, Football has Manning, basketball has LeBron, and soccer has Beckham. But who does baseball have? Amidst the serious steroid scandal that erupted in the MLB during the past year, not too many players have creditability anymore. One player that has countered the steroid controversy is captain Derek Jeter from the New York Yankees.

His presence may have been forgotten due to tall buildings in New York, but the spot light continues to grow as his accomplishments have proven his worth to Major League Baseball. Give the guy some credit, he has four World Series rings and recently passed Lou Gehrig’s record last month for the most hits as a Yankee. He is a 10-time AL All-Star, has obtained three gold gloves, and, did I mention that he had four World Series rings?

Jeter is most notably associated by his backhand snag, jump and throw trademark. Every kid playing baseball growing up has made an attempt at the famous trademark.

Jeter is undoubtedly one of those players who never lacks discipline or integrity of the game. He is making baseball shine during a time of darkness. He’s a living legend and a future hall of fame inductee. If baseball ever needed a time to redeem its name, it would be right now and thanks to Jeter’s character, baseball may be on the road to recovery.

Unfortunately, negativity surrounds Jeter due to his lucrative contract. One argument is that George Steinbrenner’s money is the root of his success, but money did not help the Tampa Bay Devil Rays win the American League Championship Series, did it? Jeter continues to be overlooked and mistreated by fans but one thing all fans must agree on is that he has made a respectable image for baseball. Don’t forget, Jeter is the top marketable player in baseball as of now, and possibly could gain his fifth World Series ring this year as his team enters postseason play.
