Biola faced a streaking team in the top-ranked Cal Baptist Lancers, who used strong offense and good pitching to sweep a GSAC doubleheader by scores of 6-1 and 8-0 on Saturday afternoon in Riverside.

Biola managed to outhit Cal Baptist 7-6 in the first game, but could only muster one run in the game. The Lancers jump-started the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first on a two-run home run by Sarah Hurlbut.

Cal Baptist broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth with three runs, taking advantage of three walks in the inning. The Lancers loaded the bases on those walks with two out. Hurlbut brought them all in with a line-drive double to center, which brought the score to 5-0.

Biola finally got on the board in the top of the fifth as Erica Moyer led off the inning with her second hit of the day. Sara Smith followed with a drive to right field, which the CBU right fielder bobbled, allowing Moyer to come all the way around from first to score.

The Lancers scored their final run of the game in the bottom of the inning, scoring on a Biola error.

Smith and Moyer combined for most of the limited offense in the first game, but the Eagles fell, 6-1.

In the second game, Biola ran out of gas, managing only one hit. The Lancers, however, came out swinging scoring four runs in each of the first two innings.

The lone hit for Biola came from Keena Levert, but Cal Baptist’s pitcher Melanie Ahumada allowed only the one hit and struck out three on her way to a win.

The Eagles dropped to 15-16 on the season and to 7-10 in GSAC play while the Lancers, who were ranked No. 1 in the latest NAIA National Poll, improved to 40-2 and 16-2 in the conference.
