Despite scoring just one run in two games, Biola was able to split a GSAC doubleheader against No. 18 The Master’s College on Saturday, falling 7-0 in the first game and winning 1-0 in the second.

The Mustangs dominated the first game of the doubleheader, getting three runs in the third inning off Biola starter Brian Albert. That would prove to be enough as Mustangs pitcher Tim Woodward threw a complete game, only allowing four hits and giving up no runs while striking out seven. The Masters College added one run in the fourth to knock out Albert before plating three more insurance runs in the seventh to ensure the victory. Woodward improved to 6-3 while Albert dropped to 2-8.

In the second game Nate Coronado continued his freshman campaign with another solid performance on the mound, pitching four shutout innings to improve to a perfect 4-0 on the season.

The Eagles got their only run of the day in the second inning when Brent Opdyke, Brent Chavez and Billy Vopinek singled consecutively with Vopinek’s single scoring Opdyke.

Biola hung on to the lead as Vopinek shut down the Mustangs in the seventh to earn his 12th save of the season, clinching the win for the Eagles.

Biola improved 21-17 overall and 14-11 in GSAC play.
