Biola women’s basketball made history by attending the NAIA National Tournament for the fourth time in the school’s history and taking home its first tournament win against No. 9 Trevecca Nazarene University.
However, the team was unable to pull out a win in their second game, falling 96-75 to the Lee University Flames.
The loss was largely due to incredible shooting by Lee University, which hit 13 three-pointers and shot 56.6 percent from the field, compared to Biola’s 39 percent.
The Biola men’s team did not get as far, losing by a mere five points in the first round to No. 6 Westminster in overtime.
The Eagles took the lead early in the game, shooting 47 percent form the field in the first half, compared to Westminster’s 29 percent. Despite the numbers, Westminster made a comeback, leaving Biola with a close two-point lead going into halftime.
The Griffins continued to make their comeback in the second half, quickly stealing the lead. However, Biola came back again with a five-point lead with only 2:32 left in the game. Unfortunately Westminster managed to tie up the game before its finish, and took the win in overtime.
The men’s team lost only one senior and returns all five starters, while the women’s team lost one senior as well as starter Megann Alberts.
Both teams finished well with strong returning lineups and look forward to a winning season next year.
