The women’s basketball team wrapped up the regular season with a 95-48 win over Hope International on Monday night at Chase Gymnasium.
The Eagles took control of the tip-off and never looked back, despite holding a slim lead for the first few minutes of the game.
However, a pair of three-pointers by junior Chelsea De Luca stretched the lead and swung the momentum in Biola’s favor. At halftime the Eagles held a commanding 51-25 lead.
Biola continued their strong offensive play in the start of the second half by scoring six straight points. The Royals could do little as Biola outscored them 44-23 in the second half, en route to the Eagles’ highest scoring game of the season.
The Eagles shot 58.5 percent from the field, including 62.5 percent from beyond the three-point line. The women had four players reach double digits and had all but one player score.
In her last home game, senior Megann Alberts led the team with 15 points on 7-of-13 shooting.
“It was my last game at home so there was some sadness,” said Alberts. “But I was excited for the play-offs and thankful for a great career.”
Sophomore Megan Jackson put up a strong offensive effort, scoring 13 points on 5 of 7 shooting. De Luca and sophomore Jennifer French also added to the mix with 11 points each.
Alberts left her mark in the history books at Biola, finishing in the top five in four different statistical categories. She became the third all-time leading scorer, second all-time in rebounding, and fourth in all-time blocks and field goals made.
Alberts received a standing ovation from family, friends, and fellow students as she left the game with 3:07 left.
The Eagles finished the regular season with 19 wins. The team made their second consecutive trip to the GSAC Tournament on Wednesday, traveling to play rival Azusa Pacific. Biola finished the year ranked fifth in GSAC rankings, and are currently ranked 23rd in the NAIA national poll.
