Now that the presidential election is over, it is time for predictions of the future. Well, that’s not entirely true. I have had these thoughts since long before the election began — as much as I supported John McCain, I predicted Barack Obama would win. (Yes, people can attest to my claim.) Here is what I believe will happen in the next four to eight years during Obama’s presidency.
First, Obama will pull the troops out of Iraq. Although this may be a good thing for the troops who are alive, it means we don’t give a rip about those who died fighting for a freedom that will not succeed. And, once we leave, thousands of Iraqi civilians will die because of the terrorist infiltration that will occur. Iraq will go back to the way it used to be. Have we forgotten Sept. 11, 2001?
Another issue is abortion. In the Illinois Senate, Obama voted against the Induced Infant Liability Act, which protected a baby’s right to live if the tiny person survived a late-term abortion. His refusal to defend human beings who survive their mothers’ and doctors’ attempt to kill them is complicity in murder. You thought it was possible to overturn Roe v. Wade? Try Roe v. Wade to the second degree.
Let’s combine the argument against the war in Iraq (the argument that people are dying) and some numbers on abortion. An estimated 4,190 American deaths have occurred in Iraq since the war began in 2003. An estimated 1,300,000 Americans have died just this year because their mothers intended to snuff out their lives. That’s roughly 6.5 million American deaths since the war in Iraq began, but not because of the war. So tell me, what is the greater problem here: Iraq or abortion?
As far as the economy is concerned, there are two problems. First is the immoral nature of the redistribution of wealth. To take from others just because they have more, then give to the poor, is immoral. Obama is not Robin Hood. The latter saw corruption in a government that taxed the poor greatly, similar to the times of the American Revolution, but poor people don’t “deserve” money naturally. Since its 18th-century origins our society has fundamentally honored the protections of private property specifically embodied in two of the Ten Commandments (eight and ten) as well as in our Lord’s teaching on dividing the wealth (Luke 12:13). Yet many Americans now are willing to dally with, or even fully embrace, language of Karl Marx’s “Communist Manifesto.”
“The distinguishing feature of Communism is not the abolition of property generally, but the abolition of bourgeois property,” it reads. “But modern bourgeois private property is the final and most complete expression of the system of producing and appropriating products that is based on class antagonisms, on the exploitation of the many by the few. In this sense, the theory of the Communists may be summed up in the single sentence: ‘Abolition of private property.'”
The private property, free enterprise system has led us to dramatic economic growth, permitting the accumulation of economic resources (capital) beyond those needed for current consumption (hence the term, capitalism), and just because we aren’t growing at a rapid enough pace, we demand change.
The second problem of Obama’s economic policy is that he plans to tax big businesses and anyone making over $250,000. Or was that $200,000? It might even be $42,000. At any rate, he’ll tax businesses with the effect that either those businesses will go out of business, thereby increasing unemployment and making more citizens dependent on and beholden to the Democrats’ welfare state, or he will pass the tax on to consumers, which makes everyone worse off. Obama’s tax hike is going to cost everyone, even the poor. Americans want ice cream, but never thought to themselves, “How are we going to afford ice cream?”
My final point is the demise of Christianity in America. When looking at history, it is clear that once a country accepts moral decay or the tolerance of others living immorally, Christianity falls. Take a look at Europe. It became secular, and now Christianity is hardly to be found on the continent. It is only in a society where the citizens commit their hearts and souls to being virtuous, rather than selfish, that Christianity flourishes. We live in a society where it is “me, me, me, my, my, my.” We are selfish; we do not care what other people do or think (relativism). Liberals in all three branches control the American government and they now will have their way for at least two years (legislative seats go up every two years). Furthermore, Islam is on the move and we want to be a hibernating bear. Dear friends, we cannot stay complacent. May Obama’s victory open up your eyes to the evil in the world.
Note: I am aware of the ambiguity of my previous statement.
From here I can only light the fire to battle the enemy not with bullets but with the combination of biblical truths and rational thought. There is a holy war, and it has begun.
