Biola continued to dominate GSAC opponent Point Loma with a 25-13, 25-20, and 25-20 victory Saturday night.

Led once again by senior outside hitters Meghan Warkentin, Jessica Buffum and Kelsey Mitchell, the Eagles piled up the kills against the vaunted Point Loma blockers. As a team, Biola hit at a .330 clip, recording eight blocks.

Biola came out of the blocks ready to take on the No. 15 Sea Lions and quickly ran away with the first set, winning seven of the first nine points. Point Loma made a comeback to 9-6 before two consecutive Kristen Peterson blocks sent Biola on 13-3 run and an eventual 25-13 victory.

Point Loma fought back in the second set, keeping it close after Biola pulled away from a 13-all tie. The Sea Lions were able to get within two points at 21-19, but it wouldn’t be enough, and the Eagles won it on a kill from Warkentin.

It looked like Biola was going to run away with the third set after four consecutive hitting errors by Point Loma gave Biola some easy points. After a 7-7 tie early in the set, Biola won nine of the next 10 points. The Sea Lions strung some points together late in the game, but could get no closer than 24-19, and Mitchell ended Point Loma’s night with a kill.

Biola had the upper hand in every major statistical category, but the death knell for Point Loma proved to be their hitting errors, as they racked up 20 to Biola’s eight to finish with a .108 hitting percentage.

The Eagles well rounded attack was directed by setting duo Christina Perkins, a senior, and junior Abbie Wright who combined for 47 set assists. Biola’s balanced front line effort consisted of six players with at least nine hit attempts.

The Eagles continue their winning campaign on Tuesday night at Hope University.
