Santa’s Garden Pumpkin Patch provides holiday fun

It’s finally fall and there is no better place to usher in the season than a pumpkin patch. We may deny it, but we all still love dressing up, carving jack-o’-lanterns and trick-or-treating — even though we’re in college.

It’s finally fall and there is no better place to usher in the season than a pumpkin patch. We may deny it, but we all still love dressing up, carving jack-o’-lanterns and trick-or-treating — even though we’re in college.

As surely as the seasons pass, pumpkin patches have upgraded their style. Santa’s Garden Pumpkin Patch, which doesn’t have anything to do with Christmas or Santa, comes with jolly jumps, obstacle courses, blow-up slides and, of course, pumpkins. Pumpkins come in at least six recognizable sizes with prices ranging from $1-$20, and the littlest ones are perfect for adorning a dull college dorm room.

The patch, located in Buena Park, didn’t always have so much to offer. Santa’s Garden has blossomed into Buena Park’s predominant pumpkin vender from its humble beginnings 15 years ago. Customers purchase $1 tickets and use them like cash within the lot, using “pumpkin bucks” to purchase pumpkins, a carving kit, stencils, food, drinks or rides on the inflatable toys. The cost gets you two slides or 10 minutes in a jumping house with prices varying from one to four tickets.

The festivities are not just for young children. Manager Rick Webb says teenagers and college students really enjoy the Titanic obstacle course and slide, the main attraction. The steep adventure consists of a climbing wall where two combatants scramble up the hull of the colossal oceanic replica. As a contender myself, I can testify that it is not for the faint of heart. Party packages can be purchased for about $15 per guest for pizza, drinks and unlimited rides for two hours.

So for all of those who feel like a kid at heart, come enjoy the merriment marking the entrance to the new season at Santa’s Garden for the entire month of October.
