Facing off: The Democratic tax plan

By declaring intentions to take more taxes from the rich and to give tax cuts to the poor, Sen. Barack Obama has become a modern day Robin Hood. As president, his plan is to restore fairness and give 95 percent of Americans the tax relief they need.

By declaring intentions to take more taxes from the rich and to give tax cuts to the poor, Sen. Barack Obama has become a modern day Robin Hood. As president, his plan is to restore fairness and give 95 percent of Americans the tax relief they need.

“Instead of more tax breaks for corporations that outsource American jobs, I’ll give them to companies who create jobs here. Instead of extending the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest – I’ll focus on you,” said Obama in a recent TV announcement.

While in the Senate, Obama introduced the Patriot Employer Act, which supported companies that maintained or increased the number of full-time American workers. It is his main objective to bring jobs back to our country from foreign warehouses and hold other countries to standards of fair trade.

Obama will provide $1.5 billion in funding to assist states with start-up costs that will help offset expenses for employees and employers. Small businesses will be able to attract workers because they can offer better health benefits. Obama’s plan will expand the Family and Medical Leave Act so that businesses can cover more employees then ever before.

Obama recognizes that while the cost of basic needs has risen drastically, wages remain the same. He plans to raise the minimum wage and increase the earned income tax credit to make sure that full-time workers earn a living wage.

Obama’s plan for our economy is solid and geared to change our economy so we are back on top. We can’t afford McCain’s policies because our economy has proven that wealth does not trickle down. If we elect Obama to be the next president of the United States, we will jump-start the economy by providing working families with tax cuts, increasing the minimum wage, and creating new jobs.
