Let’s face it. This here is Southern California. I know that girls like to prance around in their furry Ugg boots and designer quilt coats during the “bitter” winters, but for the most part, it’s considerably warm all year around. This means snow cone weather!

Scotty’s Flowers & Gifts is just down the street from Biola’s campus, and it’s the home to a plethora of snow cone flavors – twelve to be exact. Among favorites are “Kaui Cherry” and “Aloha Strawberry.” Customers can choose between a traditional snow cone or a creation exclusive to Scotty’s.

Arguably the most popular and delicious cold treat at Scotty’s is a snow cone with a scoop of ice cream on the bottom. How much will one of these unique cones set you back? It’s only $2.50 for a large snow cone with ice cream – perfect for hungry and financially stretched Biola students.

However, it wasn’t the aroma of fruity syrups that caught my attention as I entered the store. The intoxicating smell of fresh flowers overwhelms the senses upon opening the door. Scotty’s is not just a delicious boba tea and snow cone stop, it doubles as a flower shop. Complete with gift cards, fuzzy stuffed animals, colorful balloons, and assorted beautiful flowers, Scotty’s has primarily been a floral shop for over 20 years.

Owners David and Richard Numata have added edible treats to their store in the last 10 years, but it was for floral purposes that their business began. Fresh flowers are brought in three times a week from the downtown Los Angeles flower market to create multicolored arrangements. Scotty’s Flowers & Gifts is an oasis of both visual and physical refreshments that no competitor can hold a candle to.
