A Biola professor’s spouse is still in critical condition days after he was involved in Friday’s Metrolink train crash in Chatsworth.

The president’s office solicited prayers from the Biola community for Mike McReynolds, who sustained life-threatening injuries to the head and chest and remains in intensive care. McReynolds is the husband of adjunct professor Kathy McReynolds, who teaches a course on the theology of suffering and disability and also works at the Institute of Spiritual Formation.

Some reports suggest that the incident – involving a Union Pacific freight train and the light-rail commuter train carrying 225 people – was triggered after the Metrolink engineer was text-messaging. Investigators are also looking into the possibility that the signal system meant to anticipate collisions was not functioning or was ignored.

So far, 25 passengers have died and 134 sustained injuries. Of those with injuries, 44 are in critical condition.
