Biola’s first ever NCAA Division II game displayed the step up in competition from the NAIA. The Eagles visited Monmouth, Oregon, to face the Western Oregon University Wolves. Biola went down by one goal on two occasions before the game went to double-overtime, where sophomore forward Sarah Jeffries scored the winning goal for the Eagles.

The Wolves jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after a 14th minute penalty kick goal from defender Dana Jacobs and Eagles’ sophomore goalkeeper Christina Rodriguez fouled a Western Oregon attacker on a breakaway giving up the penalty.

Biola equalized the game thanks to senior forward Samantha Verduzco. Verduzco dribbled through the Wolves’ defense to slot the ball past the opposition's keeper 11 minutes after Western Oregon’s opening goal.

The Wolves quickly jumped back into the lead as midfielder Alexie Morris found forward Kennedy Clay to score in the 40th minute. Western Oregon took the lead into halftime after scoring two goals in one half on a Biola defense that allowed nine goals all of last season.

The Biola defense responded strongly in the second half, allowing zero shots for the remainder of the game. The Eagles got back into the game after an own goal by Western Oregon tied the score with 20 minutes remaining.

The game remained deadlocked at the end of regulation, and the teams headed to sudden-death overtime. The overtime was contested with two 10 minute halves, with the game ending if a team scored.

The first half of overtime was relatively tame, with Biola registering one shot on target and Western Oregon not managing any.

The second half of overtime followed the same course when Jeffries converted a Verduzco pass to give Biola their first win in NCAA Division II.

The Eagles outshot the Wolves 9 shots (8 on goal) to 7 (4 on goal).

The Eagles continue their road trip in Oregon when they face the Corban University Warriors on September 2.
