The same lineup that brought the Eagles’ baseball team their 14-run performance against Menlo College on March 9 put up double digit runs once again with a 13-4 win over Arizona Christian University. Biola’s victory to open up their three-game series against the Firestorm brings their Golden State Athletic Conference record back to even at 5-5.

The game remained scoreless through three innings as junior starting pitcher Micah Beyer worked the Eagles through a tough pitcher’s duel. Despite striking out nine batters in his last 13 innings prior to his start against ACU, Beyer struck out 11 to total a GSAC-leading 57 strikeouts this season.

“It gives me a lot of confidence,” Beyer said. “Again, that’s due to the coaches calling great pitches and it’s not a priority, but I’m just going after each guy trying to attack them.”

Although sophomore second baseman Anj Bourgeois put the Eagles ahead 2-1 with a two-run double in the fourth, ACU quickly tied the game with an RBI triple in the fifth.

With two outs in the following frame, senior first baseman Jonas Wellan hit a ball through ACU’s first baseman’s legs to bring home one run in the sixth. Sophomore pinch-hitter Kalani Nakamura followed Wellan and put Biola ahead 4-2 with an RBI single.

However, just like they did in the fifth, ACU hit a two-run homer in the sixth to tie the game 4-4. The game remained tied until junior shortstop Ricky Perez brought the go-ahead run home with an RBI double.

The Eagles took their 5-4 lead into the eighth, where they added eight runs to the scoreboard. After Wellan’s RBI single and junior right fielder Phil Knapp’s RBI double, the Eagles scored on three consecutive bases-loaded walks. Sophomore third baseman Joey Magro finished the inning with an RBI double.

Biola wraps up their three-game series against ACU with a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 11.
