After dropping the season opener to California State University Dominguez Hills, the women’s basketball team worked their way to a positive overall record with a high-scoring victory over the La Sierra University Golden Eagles.

Commanding play

Biola wasted little time in taking a commanding lead over their opponent. Through the first 10 minutes, the Eagles held a 16-point lead over the La Sierra Golden Eagles thanks to their 28 points in the first quarter. They scored at least 25 points in the next three quarters, including a game-high 29 points in the fourth quarter.

Meanwhile, their defense never faltered and held the Golden Eagles to the final score of 107-52. In fact, the Eagles have not allowed their opponent to score more than 68 points this season.

Leading the Eagles’ offense, junior guard DeMoria White finished the game with 21 points. Following three points behind, freshman guard Tatum Brimley totaled 18 points through 19 minutes of playing time. Sophomore forward Emma Newman and senior forward Joclyn Kirton both finished with 10-plus points, the former with 14 and the latter with 11.

Drought over

Senior guard Annie Park finished as one of the five Eagles to score double-digit points with 12. She shot her way to nine points in the second half after being held to three in the first. Furthermore, by making 14 assists, she not only tied a school record for most assists in a single game, but posted her first double-double of the season.

According to Biola Athletics, the Eagles 107-point victory marked the first time since 1979 the Eagles scored 100-plus points in a single game. Over thirty years ago, the women’s team put up 130 points en route to their victory over Whittier College.

The Eagles hit the road to take the court against the University of Antelope Valley on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 5:30 p.m.
