The women’s soccer team’s phenomenal start to the season continued with their 1-0 gem against the Vanguard University of Southern California Lions. Their 1-0 victory over the Lions not only bumped the Eagles to a 3-0-1 conference record, but they knocked Vanguard from first place and are now atop the Golden State Athletic Conference standings.

After nearly 20 minutes of little action, junior defender Bri Mikalson shot the game-winning goal at 16:51. From 45 yards out, Mikalson made her second goal of the season to give the Eagles the lead.

Shooting nine shots in the first period, Biola maintained their consistent offense with 12 shots in the second period. Although only one shot reached the net, the Eagles’ heavy offense and strong defense made it easy for freshman goalkeeper Christina Rodriguez to keep the Lions scoreless. Despite two shots made by the Lions in the first period, Rodriguez made her first save of the game at 48:30.

Now standing first place in GSAC, the Eagles hit the road to face the Westmont College Warriors on Oct. 5 at 3 p.m.
