Although The Master’s College Mustangs held off being swept in the series finale, junior catcher Sam Thorne’s first home run of the season contributed to the Eagles’ Golden State Athletic Conference series win. Since the Eagles took two games of the set, they have moved up to one game behind the Mustangs in the GSAC conference standings.

The Eagles secured the series with a 4-3 win over the Mustangs in the first game of the doubleheader. A pair of two-run innings in the third and seventh, mustered by Thorne and junior second baseman JD Meyer, won the game for the Eagles. Thorne ended the game 2-3 with three RBIs and senior third baseman Andres Rodriguez went 3-3, scoring two runs.

Holding onto their lead through the ninth, junior righthanded pitcher Gabe Ihrig earned the win, improving to 2-0, and sophomore righthanded pitcher Daniel Jang earned his third save of the season.

In the series finale, the Mustangs jumped on junior starting pitcher Jimmy Gallarda in the top of the second, taking a 0-2 lead. As opposed to the series opener in which the Eagles scored 11 runs, Biola only brought one run home in the bottom of the third from an RBI groundout hit by freshman centerfielder Jerron Largusa.

In the end, the Mustangs took the series finale from the Eagles 1-4. After pitching seven innings, allowing seven hits, four runs and striking out three batters, Gallarda received the loss and is now 2-5 on the season.

The Eagles kick off their six-game road trip with a series against Hope International University starting on Tuesday, March 22 at 6:30 p.m.
