Following the NAIA Indoor Championships last week, the Biola Track and Field team moved straight into the outdoor season with gusto, as they had one NAIA Outdoor qualifier, one event winner and a few other personal bests. The team competed in Fullerton at the Ben Brown Invite hosted by CSU Fullerton on March 12.

The one NAIA qualifier came in the women’s triple jump, as sophomore Teddi Wright jumped 11.5 meters, good enough for a fourth place finish and a ‘B’ standard. This was the first time Wright had attempted the triple jump in competition.

Senior Nicole Falkenstein, following her All-American performance at the pole vault at Nationals, vaulted 3.55m to earn the Eagles’ only event win of the day. Despite a very windy day, Falkenstein finished only .07m behind her best jump at nationals, and .15m ahead of the next closest competitor.

The women’s sprints showcased one personal best, as junior Amber Godinez set a season-best with a 16.71 time in the 100m hurdles, good enough for 15th place. On the men’s side, freshman Christian Yaotani won both of his heats in the 100m and 200m, but not an event win.

In the women’s 5000m, freshman Kaitlin Quaid finished first in the ‘B’ running with a time of 18:23. Fellow freshman Kelly Thomas ran with Quaid, finishing in 18:56, which earned her an eighth place spot.

The men had a few more personal bests on March 13, as the hammer throw event was postponed to Saturday morning. Despite that, sophomore Andrew Cecil and junior Dylan Fredenburg each set their personal bests finishing at 36th and 37th overall with throws of 34.81m and 33.71m, respectively.

The Eagles’ next meet is on March 19 when when they will travel to the Ross and Sharon Irwin College Scoring Meet hosted by Point Loma Nazarene University.
