After losing to Westmont College in the opening game of their three-game series, the Eagles went on to lose both games of the double header and were swept by the Warriors. Now the Eagles hold a 1-4 conference record and a 5-14 season record.
After a rough first inning, in which sophomore starting pitcher Micah Beyer gave up five hits and one walk resulting in six runs, the Eagles spent the game trying to catch up with the Warriors. Beyer left the mound, allowing 12 hits, 10 runs and dropped to 1-2 on the season.
Although they inched towards a comeback win with two sacrifice flies from seniors rightfielder Jeremy Barth and leftfielder Aaron Chavez in the bottom of the second, the Eagles’ pitching staff was no match for Westmont’s offense. In the end, the Eagles lost the first game of the double header 2-14.
Like the first game, the Warriors struck first against junior starting pitcher Jimmy Gallarda. They scored once in the top of the first and kept their lead through the rest of the game. Unlike the first game, which was a high scoring game, the Eagles kept the Warriors to three runs, but themselves were unable to score and lost 0-3.
Bethesda University returns to Biola to play another solo game against the Eagles on Tuesday, March 1 at 2:00 p.m.
