As the season nears the halfway mark, the Eagles travelled to play against the San Diego Christian College Hawks on Dec 5. Not only did they win the game, improving to an impressive 10-1 record, this was also their first Golden State Athletic Conference matchup of the season.

THE FIRST OF MANY

Both junior guard Dakari Archer and senior guard Terrell Funches made large contributions to the Eagles’ offense against San Diego. Although the Eagles went to the locker room at halftime down by 4, Archer made 11 of Biola’s 33 points in the first half. The second half was where another 11 points from Archer and 14 from Funches allowed the Eagles to take the lead and beat the Hawks. Archer ended the game with a total of 22 points while Funches finished with 20.

This game against San Diego was the first of many GSAC matchups the Eagles will be taking on after Christmas. Their division consists of schools such as The Master’s College, Menlo College and Vanguard University. Their victory over San Diego gave the Eagles a 1-0 jump start in the GSAC standings.

PASSED THE 100 POINT MARK

At this point in the season, four Eagles have passed the 100 total points landmark. His first year on the team, freshman guard Trevor Treinen currently holds 102 points. In the month of November, Treinen had three games where he scored over 10 points, one in which he scored 20.

With more minutes played, junior forward Jeff Gonzalez holds one more point than Treinen. Gonzalez has 103 points at this point into the season and shot a number of double digit point games like Treinen.

The two players with the most points on the team are Funches and Archer. Archer is narrowing in on 200 points with a total of 199 and Funches has made 158 points so far this year.

Eleven games into the season, all except for two have been double digit games for Archer. His strongest game was the season opener against Benedictine University on Oct. 10 when he scored 32 points. In five of those nine games Archer scored 20 or more points, averaging out to a .533 shooting record.

Funches made 24 points in the season opener, which is his highest number of points in any game so far this season. Funches played eight games in which he scored over 10 points, three of which he shot 20 or over.

A STRONG RECORD

With the Eagles putting up great numbers and a strong record, they prepare to take the court against Life Pacific University on Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m.
