Fast times puts cross country in top two

First place performances by Hunt and Horchler earn the men’s and women’s teams first and second place.

After their sixth meet of the season, the men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the Golden State Athletic Conference Championship Invitational. The women’s team finished on top of the championship in first place and the men finished in second place behind The Master’s College.

The women’s team finished the 5K in first place, beating Master’s by 23 points. Biola ran the 5K in 1:32:11.35, which earned them 26 points.

Finishing the championship in second place, the men’s team fell to The Master’s College by 19 points. The men ran the 8K in a total time of 2:12:23.93 and earned 57 points.

In route to earning first place in the championship, the women’s cross country team had six runners finish in the top ten. Leading the Eagles was senior Kellian Hunt who finished first overall with a final time of 17:30.50. Fellow senior Anika Gasner finished in third place, trailing behind Hunt by 28 seconds with a total time of 17:58.94.

Similar to the women’s team, the men’s cross country team had a runner finish on top in the tournament. Senior Kevin Horchler finished the run in 25:07.35 and was the first overall runner to cross the finish line. Five runners later, freshman Ryan Thompson earned sixth place with a total time of 26:19.37.

Because of their performance in the GSAC championship, both teams will compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletes Invitational on Nov. 21 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
