The No. 1 Biola women’s volleyball team maintains their streak of beating their opponents in straight sets to eight after defeating Menlo College on the road by a score of 3-0 on Sept. 19. This is the Eagles’ fourth straight victory against Golden State Athletic Conference opponents.

Coasting Through

Biola opened the match with a kill by senior outside hitter Joclyn Kirton. Kirton made her presence known throughout the whole match, leading the Eagles with 18 of Biola’s 39 kills. The Eagles coasted through the set, winning by a score of 25-16.

The Oaks looked resilient in the second set as they jumped to an early 3-0 lead. Biola answered back with a four point run of their own thanks to two aces by senior defensive specialist Alex Brehaut.

Repeating Patterns

After battling back and forth throughout the set, Menlo came close to seizing the set after being down one point at 21-22. Biola’s seniors held the Eagles’ composure in the final points as Kirton and senior setter Ashton Arbuthnot carried the team to a 3-0 run to close out the second set.

The match finished exactly how it started. Biola beat the Oaks by the same first set score of 25-16 and the match finished like it opened, a kill by Kirton.

A Split Conference

Menlo has yet to win a match this year as they fall to 0-4 in conference. The GSAC conference is currently split with four undefeated teams and four teams without a win. This will change as Biola prepares to play the second best team in conference, Westmont College at home on Sept. 22.
