Men’s soccer falls short

Biola loses their second game in a row in their match against the UC Merced Bobcats, bumping them down to 4-3.

Men’s soccer suffered another heartbreaking loss to the UC Merced Bobcats on Sept. 16. Although they took the early lead in the first half, they would eventually lose the match in the first overtime period with the score 1-2. This now puts the Eagles 4-3 in the Golden State Athletic Conference standings.

Junior forward Leonardo Contreras put the Eagles on the board early on with a goal assisted by senior midfielder John Hanscom in the 10th minute of the game. However, 10 minutes later the Bobcats evened the game with a goal in the 22nd minute.

The game was tied into the first overtime period, but ended in the 92nd minute with a goal from the Bobcats. Biola had many opportunities to score with nine goals in each half and one more in overtime. Out of those 19 shots, seven were on goal.

In the 92 minutes he played freshman defender Kousei Mattox had three shots on goal with four total shots. Likewise, Contreras had four shots, with the one shot he made on goal scored.

Senior defender Carlos Cristhian Aparicio made two shots, both of which were on goal. Despite the shots made and opportunities that arose, the Eagles were outscored by the Bobcats 1-2.

With hopes of turning around their two game losing streak, the Eagles are taking on Menlo College in a GSAC interdivisional match on Sept. 22 at 1:00 p.m.
