The Biola softball team traveled to Vanguard University on April 25 to play the last two games of the regular season. The No. 16 Lions beat the No. 20 Eagles twice earlier in the season, but the Eagles secured both games to finish the season second in the Golden State Athletic Conference.
A single run decided the first game. After three scoreless innings sophomore right-handed pitcher Kimmy Triolo fired a single through center, bringing senior Brooke Madrid home. Three innings later Biola won 1-0.
Senior right-handed Reba DePriest pitched five scoreless innings for the Eagles, only allowing one hit from the 19 batters faced. Triolo finished the game on the mound and earned a save after not allowing any hits in two innings.
The Lions struck first in the second game, scoring one run in the first inning. Biola answered back with four runs of their own thanks to an RBI double by Bro. Madrid, followed by a two RBI single from sophomore outfielder Kasey Hormel. After two innings Biola led 2-0.
Junior catcher Bria Madrid extended Biola’s lead with a single down the left field line. Vanguard answered with a single run in both fifth and sixth innings. Biola finished the game winning 6-3.
The Eagles finish their regular season with a 32-16 record, two losses worse than last season, and a 16-8 GSAC record. Biola will begin postseason play in the GSAC Softball Tournament starting on April 30.
