The Biola women’s tennis team played Colorado Christian University at home on March 19. The Cougars held a season record of 3-9 before playing Biola, and lost to Azusa Pacific University 0-9 the day before.
Biola started the match by dominating doubles. All three doubles teams were able to secure the victory, with the biggest margin coming at third doubles. Senior Lauren Vogel and sophomore Taylor Dantuma defeated their opponents by a score of 8-3. The Eagles entered singles with a 3-0 lead in the match.
Sophomores Madeline Heer and Kelsey Post earned their team high fourth doubles win of the season against Colorado Christian. The other two doubles teams each have three season wins.
The only player to secure a singles win for the Eagles was freshman Brooke Sanford at fourth singles. Sanford beat her opponent in two sets by a score of 7-5, 6-3. This win marks Sanford’s fourth of the season, as she is tied with Heer and junior Kathryn Ashford for the most singles wins on the team.
Two players pushed their matches to three sets in attempts to win the match for Biola. Post lost her first set by a score of 2-6, but rallied to win the second 6-4. Her opponent took the third set, and consequently the match by a score of 2-6.
Vogel started her match at fifth singles with a dominant 6-1 first set. Her opponent came back to win the match with a second set score of 1-6, followed by a 4-6 final set. Biola lost the match 4-5.
Biola now holds a season record of 2-10. The team will travel to Arizona on March 20 to play Arizona Christian University for Biola’s seventh conference match of the season. The Firestorm beat the Eagles 8-1 earlier this season.
