The women’s tennis team traveled to Westmont University Feb. 28 to play the No. 11 Warriors. Westmont now holds a season record of 7-3 and has defeated the Eagles 9 straight times.

Only one Biola singles player pushed their match into three sets. Sophomore Madeline Heer won her first set 6-2, but lost the next two sets by a score of 1-6, 0-6. The second closest singles match came at fifth singles. Sophomore Brooke Sanford lost her match by a score of 2-6, 2-6.

The closest the Eagles came to earning a match point came from third doubles. Senior Lauren Vogel and Sanford came back from a 3-6 deficit to ultimately lose their match 7-9.

“They were long matches,” said Vogel. “Even though a lot of singles didn’t get a lot of games, they were out there a long time. So, I would just say people fought really hard, and especially doubles people were playing really well positionally.”

Biola now holds a season record of 1-7, the second worst in the Golden State Athletic Conference. Their next match is at California Lutheran University on Mar. 6. The Regals are currently 2-2 this season and hold a two game losing streak.

“I think we’re discouraged because we’ve had a few loses in a row,” said Vogel. “But, we’re all very devoted players. We really care about this game and we really want to win. We’re trying our best, giving all we have when we’re out there and hoping for more wins. We’re getting closer and closer every time.”
