Biola track and field competed in the Soka University Indoor Qualifying Meet on Feb. 14. The Eagles finished the day with three second and three third place finishes, while adding two more athletes to their NAIA Indoor National Championships roster.
Junior distance runner Kellian Hunt earned two of Biola’s second place finishes in the women’s 1,000 meter and mile run. Hunt secured a spot in the NAIA B 1,000 meter earlier this season.
The Eagles' strongest event was the women’s 5000 meter run. Senior distance runner Carrie Soholt earned second place, followed by sophomore distance runner Sarah Pfaff and freshman distance runner Hannah Freehan. The result earned Soholt an NAIA B national spot.
Junior Elise Harabedian participated in five different events for Biola, the most of any Biola athlete. Harabedian finished sixth in the women's long jump with a jump of 4.97 meters.
Freshman pole vaulter Christina Clark took sixth in the women’s pole vault competition, clearing a height of 3.13 meters. Clark finished ahead of the other pole vaulters from the Golden State Athletic Conference.
Junior sprinter Kate Smiley secured her spot on the trip to nationals with her fourth place finish in the women’s 400 meter dash. Smiley finished with a time of 58.02. This will be Smiley’s second year competing in the NAIA Track and Field Indoor Championships.
The Eagles will compete in the Collegiate All-Comers Meet in Claremont, Calif. on Feb. 21. This meet is the last one before the NAIA Indoor Championships and the last chance for Biola to add more individuals to their championship roster.
