The men’s basketball team suffered their first road loss of the season against William Jessup University on Dec. 7. Biola stayed within four of William Jessup in the first half, but were outscored 47-32 in the second, resulting in a final score of 56-73.

Biola forced a close first half with 50 percent three point shooting and 37.5 percent shooting from the field. The Eagles also received help from freshman guard Sal Carlos, leading the team with six first-half points and three rebounds in nine minutes off the bench. Biola entered the half down 24-28.

The Warriors ran away with the lead in the second half. They shot 81.8 percent from deep and 65.2 percent from the field, resulting in a second half score of 47-32. The Eagles were 0-4 behind the arc, led by freshman guard Steele Douglas who scored six points in the second half. Senior forward Mike Kurtz also had four points, four rebounds and a block in the second.

Kurtz was the only player to score double digits for the Eagles with 10 points, along with his team high six rebounds. Senior guard Pierre Zook took second place for scoring, working for seven points and two steals.

Biola now holds a season record of 10-2 with a 1-1 conference record. They will rematch William Jessup at home on Jan. 29. The Eagle’s next game will be home against Arizona Christian University on Dec. 13. Biola lost to the Firestorm twice last year and has not beaten them since Nov. 26, 2011.
