The Men’s basketball team defeated University of California Merced on Nov. 15 to continue their perfect record to 6-0. The Eagles finished the game 95-75.

Three of the Eagle’s six wins came by a 20 point margin. This year is the best start to Biola’s season since 2010. Senior guard Pierre Zook scored 17 points in the first half alone to bring Biola to a 51-31 lead over the Bobcats by the end of the first half.

In the second half the Bobcats started making more shots and tied the Eagles in second half points at 44. However, the Bobcats’ efforts ended up being not enough and Biola finished the game with a 20 point lead still intact at 95-75.

The Eagles struggled with turnovers, finishing the game with a team total of 17. Biola made up for the turnovers by shooting 75 percent from the free throw line.

Zook led both Biola and UC Merced with 27 total points. Senior forward Mike Kurtz contributed 12 out of Biola’s 33 defensive rebounds. Kurtz also earned his third double-double this season with 19 points and 13 rebounds.

The Eagles will travel to Claremont, California on Nov. 18 to play Pomona-Pitzer College at 7:30 p.m.
