The men’s basketball team played La Sierra University on Nov. 12 for the second time this season. After dominating the first half 44-24, Biola was able to coast to a victory while giving their bench players extended minutes. The Eagles won the game 78-48, moving to 5-0 for the season.

Senior forward Mike Kurtz earned his second double-double of the season in the first half, scoring 15 points and securing 10 rebounds. Biola entered the half leading La Sierra comfortably with a score of 44-24.

“Rebounds are the biggest thing,” said Kurtz. “Points will come, some nights more than others, but rebounds are always key. I have my mindset to crash the boards every time, that’s the biggest thing.”

The second half gave Biola an opportunity to spread the playing minutes between players on the bench. Freshman guard Steele Douglas made the most of his time, producing six points and two rebounds in seven minutes. Biola outscored La Sierra in the second half 34-24.

“It was just a great team win from the top down,” said Kurtz. “We need the young guys just as much as they need us. It was fun just to watch the young guys come up and get to play. They work just as hard as we do day in and day out so it was fun to see them get in and have fun as well.”

Biola is now 5-0 for the season and will move on to play University of California Merced on Nov. 15. The Bobcats are currently 0-4 this season.

“We just have to take it one game at a time,” said Kurtz. “At this point we know we’re 5-0 but we just want to take it one game at a time and have the mindset that they are going to be the best team we’ve played so far.”
