The Biola Eagles volleyball team finished their second game in two days with a solid three-set victory over the William Jessup Warriors on Saturday. The 26-4 Eagles were the heavy favorites to win the match, as 1-12 William Jessup sat in last place in the Golden State Athletic Conference.
The match went according to expectations, with Biola taking care of William Jessup 25-17, 25-19, and 25-18. The match was over so quickly that no hitter on either team got into double digits for kills. Senior middle blocker Amy Weststeyn and junior outside hitter Alyssa Mason got the closest for Biola, with nine and seven kills respectively. Junior middle blocker Lauren Hoenecke also put down seven kills and senior opposite Britta Blaser contributed four kills without any attacking errors. The night was slow for blocking but Mason was a standout, getting four of Biola’s six total blocks.
Another standout for the Eagles was senior libero Jaci Schork, who co-led the team in digs with 10. The player that Schork tied for most digs with was Weststeyn, who did a little bit of everything on the court, including two assists.
The second set was incredibly efficient for the Eagles offensively, as they were able to convert 13 of their 29 hitting attempts into kills, while only committing one attacking error for a total kill percentage of .414. They were helped along by William Jessup’s 10 attacking errors and .054 kill percentage.
With this win, the Eagles improve to 27-4 overall, 14-1 in conference play, and a perfect 9-0 at away games. They look to stay undefeated on the road as they wrap up their regular season on Nov. 15 with a road game against The Master’s College at 7 p.m.
