Men’s soccer looked to win its first game since the beginning of October when the team played the San Diego Christian College Hawks at home on Oct. 22. This matchup marked the Eagles’ senior night and last home game of the Golden State Athletic Conference season.

Coming off two tie games, the Eagles needed to win in order to secure a playoff spot. The Hawks, ranked just below the Eagles at seventh place in GSAC standings, recently defeated Arizona Christian University 4-2 on October 15.

The Eagles came out strong, controlling the ball at the start of the first half. However, the game turned into a defensive battle, a Hawks’ midfielder clocking in the first shot almost ten minutes into the match.

About 18 minutes into the game, junior forward Stephen Tanquary scored his eighth goal of the season when he redirected a cross from junior midfielder Joey O’Keefe.

Throughout the remainder of the half, the Eagles’ defense capitalized on many opportunities to pull the Hawks’ forwards offside, taking away chances for the opposition to score.

Despite outshooting the Hawks 10-6 in the second half, the Eagles were unable to find the back of the net a second time and gave up one goal when a Hawks’ forward headed the ball off a throw-in five minutes into the period.

At the end of regulation, the teams were tied 1-1.

The Eagles controlled the first overtime period, not allowing the Hawks any shots. With just over one minute remaining, senior midfielder Stephen Campos scored the game-winning goal and his second goal of the season.

This 2-1 win marked the first for the Eagles since Oct. 4.

The Eagles take on the Westmont College Warriors for the second time this season on Saturday, Oct. 25. When these two teams met for the first time, the Eagles lost by a score of 2-1 despite outshooting the Warriors 20-12.
