The Biola Eagles matched up against the Westmont College Warriors at Al Barbour Field on Oct. 1. Heading into the game, the Warriors led the GSAC conference standings with two wins and a tie. The teams last competed against each other on Nov. 9 last year, the Eagles winning 2-1.

The Warriors proved a tough contest for the Eagles, controlling possession and being first to the ball for the majority of the first half. Just under twenty minutes into the game, the Warriors scored the first goal of the match off a rebound from a miraculous save by Eagles’ junior keeper Joshua Crichton.

The Eagles attempted two shots at goal, but were unable to capitalize on any in the first 45 minutes of the game.

Biola started the second half with more intensity. Within the first three minutes, the Eagles put up an additional three shots on goal. However, the Warriors did not let up pressure and scored their second goal merely three minutes into the half.

One and a half minutes later, junior forward Stephen Tanquary scored his sixth goal of the season to put Biola on the scoreboard, placing the ball low and to the corner, expertly evading the Warriors’ keeper.

The Eagles continued their forceful presence on the field throughout the second half, registering a total of 14 shots in the period.

Despite the fire in the Eagles’ play, they remained unable to exploit any weakness in the Warriors and lost 2-1. This marks the Eagles’ second loss in a row.

The Eagles’ conference record dropped to 1-2, their overall record dropping to 4-4-1 with this loss. They seek to improve their play against the William Jessup University Warriors at home this Saturday, Oct. 4, at 7pm.
