Men’s soccer suffers first loss loss on the road

The Biola men’s soccer team competed in two matches in Prescott, Ariz. over the weekend. The Eagles defeated Our Lady of the Lake University in a close 2-1 match-up on Saturday, September 13, but fell to Embry Riddle Aeronautical University on Sept. 15.

The game was knotted up at 0-0 all the way through the first half, but the second half started off with a bang. The Eagles scored before three minutes had gone by in the second half. Freshman midfielder Jarret Pugh scored the go-ahead goal in the 47th minute, and freshman midfielder True Tamplin set Pugh up with the assist.

The game stayed at 1-0 all the way until the 86th minute when the Saints of Our Lady of the Lake tied it up. Sophomore midfielder Juan Carlos Vasquez scored the goal for the Saints. The Eagles fought back immediately.

Exactly 30 seconds later, Biola took back the lead. Junior forward Stephen Tanquary scored a goal later in the 86th minute, with a little over three minutes left to play.

The Eagles did not surrender the lead for the rest of the game, coming out with the victory to improve to 3-0-1 on the year. Tanquary led the team in shots with four, two of which were on goal and Tamplin added two shots of his own, both of which were on goal. Junior goalkeeper J.T. Addington had four saves in the game.

MATCH AGAINST EMBRY RIDDLE BRINGS FIRST LOSS OF THE SEASON

The following monday men lost 6-1 to the Eagles of Embry Riddle Aeronautical University on Monday night, Sept. 15 in Prescott, Ariz.

The first half was close, with the momentum going back and forth. Embry-Riddle scored the first two goals of the game, but there were plenty of opportunities for both teams.

Freshman midfielder True Tamplin scored the lone goal of the game for the Biola Eagles in an otherwise dismal game. Tamplin's second goal of the year came in the first half, to make the score 2-1, where it stayed until halftime.

Biola proved unable to get anything positive to happen in the second half. Embry-Riddle scored two more goals to take Biola out of the game mentally. Embry-Riddle tacked on two more to make the final score of the game 6-1.

This loss marked the first of the season for the Biola Eagles, taking their record to 3-1-1. Biola’s next game is at Cal State San Marcos Saturday, Sept. 20.
