Before Saturday’s match, Biola University had been racking up quite a record, with 11 spectacular wins and three losses. With this crushing momentum, the Eagles faced the Hope International University Royals at Chase gymnasium on Sept. 13th.
Although the match was over in three sets in favor of the Eagles, it was by no means a landslide win, as the opposing team put up quite a fight.
The first set ended in favor of the Eagles with a crushing score of 25-13. The Eagles were in a spectacular condition, totaling 15 kills and only 2 errors by the end of the set.
The second set showcased Hope’s determination and, instead of backing down, Hope put up a fight and barely lost 28-26. Compared to their first set, the Royals achieved two more kills, which would have likely amounted to Hope’s win if their errors did not increase with the second set as well. The third set proved to be the final and easiest set for the Eagles, as they finished their game with a score of 25-12.
Based on the season’s prognoses, junior outside hitter Alyssa Mason was in the Eagle’s spotlight for the match against Royals, and did not disappoint, finishing the game with a .333 percentage. In addition to Mason’s stellar performance, senior middle Amy Weststeyn also provided positive results, walking off the court with a .474 percentage.
The Eagles next game is with Concordia University on Sept. 20 at 7 pm.
