This week’s Associated Students Senate meeting began with a discussion about the proposals to dissolve the Community Action and Religious Lectures departments. The senate heard from Madeline Zae, the community action coordinator, who explained her thoughts on the proposal to dissolve her department.

“If this position was dissolved, I wish there could be an outlet for some of these events to continue into next year. I wish there was some kind of transition out of the position,” Zae said.

Next, the leaders of the Adventure Club shared concerns about potential overlap between the club and the new proposed AS department.

“Our biggest concern is that our funding will be cut. Our second concern is that events will be planned at the same time as ours. If the proposal goes through, then just keep the Adventure Club in mind,” said Becky Todd, president of the Adventure Club.

Voting

The senate voted in favor of both proposals to dissolve the Community Action and Religious Lectures departments.

Finally, the senate passed the proposal to create the new Outdoor Excursions department.
