Biola volleyball continued their ascent towards the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Championship match by winning their first two matches on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Eagles’ overall record is now 24-3.

After a convincing four-set victory on Tuesday over Indiana Wesleyan University, the Eagles took one step closer to the knockout round after a three-set sweep of Dordt College on Wednesday.

In the first set Biola took immediate control and earned the first six points of the game. Dort was able to get on the board with a single block from setter Kayla Gesink. Junior middle blocker Amy Weststeyn got the ball back on Biola’s side with a kill.

The Eagles were able to get another long run of points to lead Dordt 13-1. Biola continued their momentum and finished the set 25-9.

In the second set Biola once again established an early lead at 6-2. The Eagles maintained a steady pace to win the set 25-12. Biola finished the set with the highest attack percentage for the night at .682.

Biola was tied with Dordt early in the third set at three, but that changed when Weststeyn got to the service line and aced four out of six of her serves to put Biola at 9-3. The Eagles stretched the lead to 18-8 with constant attacks on the front row from senior middle blocker Chelsea Arnitz and sophomore outside hitter Jocyln Kirton. The Eagles went on to finish the final set 25-14.

Weststeyn was the leader on the court for Biola. Weststeyn tallied up 11 kills, four aces and five blocks for the match. The Eagles were hot on the service line, picking up a total of 10 aces for the entire match.

Biola’s next match will be against Lindsey Wilson College at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
