Iran and the United States recently struck a nuclear deal. Despite hesitation and criticism about the deal, this agreement is a key step towards better relations and Middle Eastern stability. The nuclear deal between Iran and America imposes a limit on Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for lighter economic sanctions from the U.S. and other countries.
The nuclear deal demonstrates America’s willingness to deal with Iran’s government in a diplomatic manner. Iran is a Shiite, Persian state surrounded by mainly Sunni Arab states which increases tension in the Middle East. This deal helps to reduce the risks of war in the Middle East.
Although the supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has called America the “Great Satan,” this deal has eased the tension between Iran and America, as indicated by the supreme leader’s support of the deal.
The lightening economic sanctions will encourage other countries to trade with Iran, providing hope for a better economic condition in the country and improved relations with the rest of the world. The removal of some sanctions will increase supply of products because of the increased trade between Iran and other countries. The lightening of economic sanctions also will increase competition in the world market as Iran enters in as a new potential producer and consumer. Both of these benefits will decrease inflation in Iran. The deal will decrease feelings of isolation in Iran which was previously cut off from trade with other countries.
The Iranian people believe that the greatest advantage of this nuclear deal will be the sense of peace in the country. Krista, do you remember which source we got this from?
Due to the nuclear deal, the United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency will have clearance to search Iran’s sensitive areas, increasing a sense of safety and security to Iran’s neighboring countries and the world. Russia and China — known for rebelling against Western powers — are on board with the deal, indicating the mending of relationships between world powers.
Because of the temporary nature of the nuclear deal, there is room for improvements to the deal once it expires, encouraging more negotiations and mending conditions between America and Iran.
The nuclear deal provides an opportunity for Iran to demonstrate that it is a trusting and peaceful nation. It provides a segue for the world powers to increase negotiations with Iran to permanently neutralize all nuclear activity.
Although many in America and the Middle East are skeptical about the nuclear deal, it is actually a step towards improving American-Iranian relations and Middle Eastern stability.
