This week’s AS Senate meeting began with a recap of Midnight Madness. Jennifer Essig, vice-president of events and programming, took suggestions on how to make the event better in the future. One suggested improvement was to allow the disabled to be seated before everyone else enters the gym.
This was the third open proposal day of the semester, and the senate heard two proposals.
Proposals
Paul Maertens, Biola graduate, and Michael Asmus, senior film and English major, proposed for funding to assist in promoting their film “The Last Raptor.” The requested amount of $1,515 will pay for posters, stickers and other promotional materials.
The promotional materials will advertise the premiere of the film, which will be occurring early in the spring semester.
“We just want to get the word out well,” Maertens said.
Next, the senate heard another proposal from the Constitution Committee for constitutional amendments. The proposed changes deal with Articles I, II, III, IV and V.
One of the major proposed changes deals with the structure of AS. Previously, the AS government consisted of two branches: the executive branch and the events and programming branch. The proposed structure is as follows: “AS shall consist of an Executive Board that oversees the following branches: the Senate, Events and Programming and Auxiliary.”
Voting
The senate voted on the constitutional bylaw amendments that were proposed at last week’s meeting. The bylaw amendment consisted of changes to the election process, and addressed how to determine AS election winners. After much discussion, the Senate voted in favor of passing the bylaw amendment proposal.
