The Eagles fell 2-0 to the San Diego Christian Hawks on Wednesday. The loss put Biola’s record at 7-5-1 overall and 1-3-1 in Golden State Athletic Conference play.

The Hawks took the lead early within the second minute of the match. Midfielder Chantel Louden took the free kick for San Diego. The ball bounced off of the crossbar and forward Vivian Oray took the opportunity of being alone in the box to complete the goal.

Junior defender Michelle Clark tried to tie up the score in the 13th minute, but the shot went wide. Junior forward Miranda Starbeck also cracked a shot in the 22nd minute but with no results either.

The Hawks lead the Eagles 1-0 by the end of the first half.

A PHYSICAL GAME

Biola attempted to tie San Diego multiple times. Clark attempted her second shot of the match in the 50th minute but once again was too wide. In the 67th minute Clark was able to put the ball on target, but goalkeeper Sandra Castro was able to make the save and keep the Hawks' lead on Biola.

In the 79th minute forward Zoar Gonzalez for San Diego dribbled through Biola’s defense and scored to give the Hawks a larger lead.

The Eagles were not able to make a comeback and ended the match 2-0.

San Diego played a very physical game, finishing the match with a total of 17 fouls compared to Biola’s five. The teams tied for eight total shots attempted, but what made the difference was the five shots saved by the Hawks’ defense compared to Biola’s two.

Biola junior goalkeeper Briana Williams made several attempts to come up with big saves for the Eagles, but the constant pressure by San Diego’s offense proved to be too much.

Biola will look to get back on track against Vanguard in Costa Mesa on Saturday. Recent field renovations have caused a time change to a 1 p.m. kickoff.
