The Eagles had their most dominant performance of the year as they dismantled University of Antelope Valley 9-0. The thrashing at Al Barbour field is the largest goal differential for women’s soccer in recent years.
Biola attempted a total of 56 shots with almost every player getting one off.
The Eagles had a plethora of goal scorers throughout the match. Freshman forward Margaret Guadarrama scored two goals for the team in the first half, as did freshman midfielder Jessie Burns. Burns tallied once in the first half and another in the second half. Others on the score sheet were senior forward Chrissy King, junior forward Miranda Starbeck, senior midfielder Morgan Aukshunas and senior midfielder Victoria Dalla Zanna.
“The advantage our team has is team chemistry. Off the field, we are all best friends and recognize that, more importantly, we are sisters in Christ,” junior defender Shea Davis said. “Each player brings something different.”
The defense played a huge role in securing the clean sheet. During the game, Antelope Valley had only one shot directed at Eagle goalkeeper junior Brianna Williams, who saved it for the home squad.
“Each girl is important and is needed on this team,” sophomore midfielder Adeline Saldana said.
The Eagle ladies seem to be fired up as of recent, winning their third straight game after starting the season 2-1. The women will take on Cal State San Marcos today at 5 p.m. The last time the Eagles beat San Marcos was Oct. 2, 2009 but with plenty of momentum behind them, Biola looks to make it a tough game for the Cougars.
