Crime Log: summer and first week of school

This week’s crime roundup includes ear-splitting audio, a smoking refrigerator, basketball brouhaha and a full moon over Neff Park.

Disturbing the Peace  — Emerson Hall
Aug. 31, 2:39 a.m.
Campus Safety received a complaint about a movie that was turned up too loud in a neighboring room. The residents turned the volume down when officers arrived.

Fire, accidental cause — Talon
Aug. 28, 11:32 a.m.
A refrigerator compressor shorted out, overheated and burnt some of the insulation around the wire. Employees called when they saw smoke, but no fire occurred. The damage was only found when the refrigerator stopped working later that day, and the repair man discovered the malfunctioning compressor.

Battery — Chase Court (Street)
Aug. 26, 10:07 p.m.
An altercation during a pick-up basketball game became heated. Officers responded and the individuals involved resolved the issue with no further incident.

Hit and Run: Property Damage — Lot P (Bluff Housing)
Aug. 26, between 9:20 a.m. and 1:14 p.m.
A driver noticed a dent on her parked car when returning to it. Campus Safety is currently investigating the incident.

Reckless Driving — University Drive
Aug. 24, 8:18 a.m.
Campus Safety received a report from a Biola employee about a vehicle driving very fast through campus. Due to the fact that it was last seen leaving campus, Campus Safety was not able to make contact with the driver.

Grand Theft — Off Campus
Aug. 18, 12:15 p.m.
Vehicle equipment was stolen from outside the La Mirada apartments. The victim also filed a report with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department because the street is under the LASD’s jurisdiction.

Indecent Exposure — Neff Park
July 23, 12:31 p.m.
Campus Safety received a call from the Rancho campus about an individual who was mooning people from the backseat of a vehicle at Neff Park. As Neff Park is outside of Campus Safety’s jurisdiction, they referred the report to the LASD.
