Biola volleyball continued their dominance on the court by adding two wins to their now 7-0 record in the second day of the Concordia Labor Day Festival.

Eagles produce fourth sweep against Falcons

The Eagles’ first match of the day was against Westminster College Utah. Throughout the entire match Biola and Westminster kept within a few points of each other, but Biola was able to pull through and sweep the Falcons.

In the first set, Biola had a shaky start due to a few unforced errors and trailed behind Westminster 10-7. Biola was able to come back and win the set 26-24.

Biola produced less unforced errors in the second set to win 25-18. Sophomore outside hitter Jocyln Kirton executed five kills in the second set alone.

But Westminster was not going to let the Eagles sweep them that easily. Taking advantage of two unforced errors in the beginning of the game, the Falcons surged ahead of Biola 4-0. Junior middle blocker Amy Weststeyn put Biola on the board with a kill.

Biola continued to struggle to get ahead of the Falcons. It wasn’t until about mid-game that the Eagle’s cleaned up their execution and started forcing more errors on Westminster’s side of the net at 16-20.  Biola took control from there and finished the set 25-18.

Biola comes out on top despite rocky start

Biola’s second matchup for the day was against Cornerstone University in Michigan. In the first set the Eagles and the Golden Eagles rallied back and forth, but Biola was not able to close the distance that Cornerstone had against them and lost the set 25-23.

The second set was a completely different story for Biola. Weststeyn put Biola on the board with a kill and from there the Eagles forced Cornerstone to produce many errors. The Eagles trampled over Cornerstone to finish the set 25-16.

Cornerstone was able to stay closer in score to the Eagles in the third match. However, Biola’s offense proved to be too much for the Golden Eagles, who lost 25-19.

In the final set Biola fell behind and Cornerstone took the lead at 9-6. Cornerstone got caught up in their unforced errors and Biola was able to regain the lead and take the set 25-20.

The Eagles look to continue their winning streak in the Vanguard University Tournament on Sept. 6. Biola will take on California University State San Marcos at 11 a.m. and then La Sierra University at 5 p.m.
