The women’s track team won their first-ever Golden State Athletic Conference Track and Field Championship and the men placed third overall in the 2013 GSAC Championships on Friday and Saturday at Westmont College.

The women’s team placed high in many field events.

Junior Taylor McCahon defended her GSAC pole vault title by clearing 3.70 meters. Freshman Nicole Falkenstein cleared 3.50 meters to secure second place.

Junior Whitney Fredenburg earned second place in the shot put with a throw of 36.20 meters. Fredenburg threw 32.33 meters in discus to earn third.

Freshman Megan Crumley finished first in the javelin with a throw of 36.20 meters. Crumley also secured a win in the discus with a throw of 33.77 meters.

Freshman Elyse Harabedian earned a second place finish in the heptathlon with 3,410 points. Fellow freshman Kate Smiley finished right behind Harabedian with 3,288 points.

The men’s team brought home four top-three medals in the field events and two in the relay races.

Junior Peter Stacy took first in the javelin with a throw of 56.52 meters. Stacy also placed second in the shot put with a throw of 11.94 meters and in discus with a throw of 38.33 meters. Fellow junior Jeff Tran cleared 4.4 meters in the pole vault to win first place.

The men’s 4×100 relay consisting of juniors Jordan Smith, Marc Opena, freshman Cameron Cambell and sophomore Josh Rancharan placed third with a time of 45:33. Freshmen James McCahon, Shane Brinson, sophomore Andrew Daedler, and junior Danny Ledesma, and brought home a second place finish in the 4×800 relay with a time of 7:59.61.

The Eagles will finish out their season at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships in Marion, Indiana starting on May 23.
