Tennis falls to Westmont on men’s and women’s side

Both fall 8-1 to NAIA No. 5 Warriors.

Men’s tennis lost 8-1 to Westmont Saturday in a Golden State Athletic Conference meet.

Biola struggled to keep up in the singles matches. Senior David Mossman lost to Westmont’s Tim Goranson 6-4 and 6-3. From there, Westmont continued to dominate the singles matches. Rodrigo Schaefer from Westmont defeated junior Isaiah Pekary 6-1 and 6-2.

Biola’s doubles teams also struggled against Westmont. Eagles Pekary and Mossman lost to John Bertram and Tim Goranson 8-4. Junior Greg Cobain and junior Chris Evans lost to Rodrigo Schaefer and Joshua Barnard 8-1.

The women’s team also lost to Westmont 8-1. Freshman Kathryn Ashford secured Biola’s only win in her match against Jessica Cedillo 6-0 and 6-4. Senior Alisha Hansen was defeated by Grace Davis 6-3, 6-1.

Westmont defeated Biola in doubles as well. Ashford and fellow freshman Susan Carmichael lost 8-4 to Tara Yekrang and Jessica Cedillo. Sophomore Lauren Vogel and freshman Olivia Koelsch lost to Westmont’s Emily Keach and Carolyn Stevens 8-5.

The men’s next match will be up against George Fox University in Palm Springs on Monday. The women’s team will go up against Vanguard on Tuesday.
