The men’s soccer team improved to 2-0-0 after a win on Friday evening, Sept. 5, against the visiting Griffins of Westminster College, Utah.

The Eagles were led by freshman Marco Ruvalcaba with a goal in the 54th minute after an assist from sophomore Kennedy Chongo. After a couple of well-played passes through the midfield, Chongo finished the passing circuit with a cross to Ruvalcaba, who then placed the ball in the top right corner of the net.

Sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Higgins did well to preserve the lone goal for the Eagles. Higgins recorded his second straight shutout, making six saves including a crucial game-deciding save in the last five minutes of the match that came from a well-played free kick.

The game was very physical on both sides with the teams combining for 35 fouls and three cards, two of which came from the Eagles. Biola outshot the Griffins by a count of 12-10 in the match and held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

Now 2-0-0, the men were back in action on Monday, Sept. 8, with a game on the road against NCAA Division III Claremont College at 7 p.m.
