The women’s volleyball team won its tenth straight game with a win over Holy Names University in Chase Gymnasium Friday night, Sept. 5, to maintain a perfect 10-0 on the season.
Biola was dominant through the first two sets, winning 25-12 and 25-13 before letting up in the third set to rest several starters. The Eagles still wrapped up the sweep with a 25-21 victory.
Senior Meghan Warkentin again led Biola with ten kills on 21 attempts, with setters senior Christina Perkins and junior Abbie Wright orchestrating an offense that Holy Names struggled to slow down; Biola registered eleven players with two or more kills. Perkins and Wright combined for 32 total assists while sophomore Tavea Hampton had a breakout game with four blocks and four kills after struggling with injuries in the preseason.
Fourth-ranked Biola has picked up right where it left off last December by wearing teams down with an incessant offensive attack and stellar defensive play led by Katie Stevens. Holy Names couldn’t beat the blocking and receiving schemes that Biola employed, which allowed Biola to walk away with a relatively easy win.
Biola opens conference play next week against Vanguard University in Costa Mesa.
