2008 MTV Video Music Awards preview

On Sunday, at 9:00 p.m. EST, Paramount Studios in Hollywood is prepared to bring you a night full of competition and talent from your favorite musicians and actors at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards (VMA).

This year’s VMA includes a variety of popular performers, presenters and nominees. Performers at the show include Katy Perry, T-Pain, Rihanna, Lil Wayne and the Jonas Brothers. Olympian Michael Phelps, “Hannah Montana” star Miley Cyrus and the cast of “High School Musical 3” are among the presenters for the event. Nominees for various awards span a large spectrum, from Flo Rida (“Low”) to Madonna (“4 Minutes”).

The VMA was established in the summer of 1984 by MTV to commemorate the top music videos of the year. This year marks the 25th Annual Video Music Awards show, and, according to MTV’s web site, it’s definitely going to be an unforgettable night with “A-list musicians, reality stars, record-breakers, trouble-makers and models.”

The nominee categories for this year’s show include Best New Artist, Video of the Year, Best Male Video, Best Female Video and Best Special Effects.

Comedian Russell Brand of London is scheduled to host the show.

You can vote for your favorite artists until Sept. 7, when the winners for each category will be announced during the show. Who do you think is going to win for each category? Will music veterans such as Britney Spears or popular artists like Chris Brown reap all the rewards? Or will the VMA propel rising bands, such as Paramore, to the next professional level? Tell us who you think will win and tune in on Sunday to find out!
