Men’s golf opens spring season

The Eagles placed 12th out of 16 teams at a tournament in Vista over the weekend.

Men’s golf battled against big-name schools Monday and Wednesday in the California State University, San Marcos Invitational. The Eagles placed 12th overall and shot 98-over in the three-round tournament.

Senior Josh Mathis was the top finisher for Biola, placing tied for 18th overall with a total score of 226. Freshman Kevin Vandekamp followed up Mathis for the Eagles placing 67th overall with a total score of 245.

Oklahoma City University took first place in the tournament with a team score of 21-over. Host San Marcos finished second, shooting 27-over as a team.

Jake Knapp and Matt Pinizzotto both golfed unattached from UCLA and finished one-two in the tournament. Knapp shot an eight-under while Pinizzotto shot a one-under.

After shooting 327 in both of the first two rounds as a team, the Eagles dropped their third round score to 308. Vandekamp led the way in this change, shooting a 75 in the final round after shooting a pair of 85’s in the first two.

The Eagles don’t hit the links again until March 4 at The Master’s College Spring Invitational.
